  3. Understand the marking system
  4. Develop a strategy to score on the  five clinical skills domains
  5. Develop an insight into your abilities and weaknesses

The Part 3 MRCOG OSCE consists of 14 tasks in a circuit,each task is based on one of the 14 modules detailed in the Part 3 MRCOG syllabus

Each of the station task will be  assessed in the context of 5 domains:

  1. Patient safety
  2. Communication with patients and their relatives
  3. Communication with colleagues
  4. Information gathering
  5. Applied clinical knowledge

Each station is usually scored to assess between three and four of the domains .

An experienced Clinical Examiner will be present  on all 14 tasks, in addition to and a  role player ,a lay examiner will be present at some station, his/her role is to  assess the domains of communication, patient safety and information gathering from the perspective of the patient. Each task is 12 minutes in length, which includes 2 minutes of initial reading time.

The task will be similar to the actual exam which involves ;

Simulated patient/colleague tasks ,the candidate will be scored interacting with an actor who has been trained and fully briefed in the role she/he is to play. A clinical scenario will be provided for the candidates and role players, the role players are instructed to use  appropriate prompt.

Structured discussion tasks, involve the candidate interacting directly with a clinical examiner. The examiners will give information about the task, they can use to prompt the candidate or to move the task on to ensure that he candidate does not run out of time. Some circuit may contain ‘linked tasks’, where the second task is connected to the first. Candidates will be expected to build on the knowledge acquired in the first task.

A buzzer will indicate the start of the examination, you will stand outside the cubicle and read the task material available on the board. After the 2 minutes, a buzzer will sound again and you will proceed into the cubicle for assessment. After 10 minutes the buzzer will sound and you must leave immediately and move to the next task and start reading. You will continue this cycle until you have attended all tasks.
